Hunt Development Group Hawai‘i Nears Construction Completion on Daniel K. Akaka VA Clinic

Finishing touches are being installed at the 90,000-square-foot Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic. The clinic’s lobby boasts a wood-slat ceiling that is a stunning design feature sure to be enjoyed by the more than 87,000 veterans and their families in Hawai‘i and across the Pacific who will use the facility.

The team has been hard at work on the interior finishes, flooring and lighting. Greenery and landscaping have been added outside the building and throughout the 500-stall parking lot, which includes 19 electric vehicle-charging stations. The Department of Veterans Affairs Pacific Island Health Care Systems (VAPIHCS) is slated to move into the facility in 2024.

The roads that run adjacent to the clinic — Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue, the Kamokila Boulevard Extension and Boxer Road — are scheduled to open in 2024. Copahee Avenue, which runs along Barbers Point Elementary School, will remain in its current condition into the new year, while Hunt Development Group Hawai‘i awaits government approvals.

Work also continues on new traffic signals being installed at the intersection of Wākea Street and Kapolei Parkway, near Kapolei Lofts. The area will remain open as work is completed. It’s estimated that traffic signals may be activated as early as January 2024 following equipment installation by Hawaiian Electric and the City & County of Honolulu. Hunt is proud of the role it is playing to bring this much-needed resource to veterans and their families.
