Construction Update
November 1, 2022
Improvements to Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) Avenue are ongoing. Two new mauka (mountainside) lanes of FDR Ave. will remain closed to ensure the safety of contractors while they continue construction. Two makai (oceanside) lanes are open for public access. Additionally, Hunt contractors have made significant progress on the Kamokila Boulevard extension and Boxer Road relocation. FDR Ave., the Kamokila Blvd. extension, and the new Boxer Road are scheduled to open to the public early next year.
Copahee Avenue will be closed to the public through at least mid-2023. Access to Barbers Point Elementary School remains unchanged via Tulagi Avenue. Hunt representatives continue to work with school administrators to minimize disruption to the campus.
FDR Ave.: Once complete, FDR Ave. will have 4-lanes along the entire length of the project with two lanes going in each direction. This new segment will have sidewalks on both sides of the road, which will increase walkability in the area.
Kamokila Blvd.: Kamokila Blvd. has been extended into Kalaeloa. The Kamokila extension will have travel lanes in both directions with bike lanes continuing on both sides of the roadway once improvements are complete.
Boxer Road: Boxer Road has been relocated. Boxer Road will include travel lanes in both directions and a sidewalk on the mauka side of the roadway once phase one of improvements are complete.
Progress continues to be made on the Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.
