Construction Update
July 5, 2023
The Kamokila Boulevard Extension, Boxer Road, and new lanes of Franklin D. Roosevelt Avenue are now scheduled to open no sooner than September 2023. Finishing touches continue to be made on the road and new striping patterns aimed at improving traffic flow are still awaiting government approvals.
Copahee Avenue will remain closed through late 2023 while Hunt awaits guidance from the U.S. Department of Education. Barbers Point Elementary School will continue to be accessible through Tulagi Avenue. Hunt representatives continue to work with school administrators to minimize disruption to the campus.
FDR Ave.: Once complete, FDR Ave. will have 4-lanes along the entire length of the project with two lanes going in each direction. This new segment will have sidewalks on both sides of the road, which will increase walkability in the area.
Kamokila Blvd.: Kamokila Blvd. has been extended into Kalaeloa. The Kamokila extension will have travel lanes in both directions with bike lanes continuing on both sides of the roadway once improvements are complete.
Boxer Road: Boxer Road has been relocated and will include travel lanes in both directions. Once phase one of improvements is complete, a sidewalk will be added on the mauka side of the roadway.
Hunt continues to make significant progress on the Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic, which will provide specialized health care to over 87,000 veterans and their families. With continuous site work and curbing, the clinic's large parking lot has begun to take shape. Once complete, it will have 528 stalls for clinic patrons including 19 chargers for electric vehicles.
The building’s exterior is nearly complete with window and glazing installation. Interior work is also quickly advancing with Nan, Inc. installing light fixtures, doors, and flooring in the clinic.
The nearly 90,000-square-foot facility will offer primary care, mental health, audiology, physical and occupational therapy, dental and prosthetic services. The clinic is scheduled to open in 2024.
The Daniel Kahikina Akaka Department of Veterans Affairs Community-Based Outpatient Clinic is part of Hunt Companies' commitment to revitalize Kalaeloa. Hunt began infrastructure construction and significant road improvements in June 2021 as the company strives to bring jobs and homes to the area for local residents.
